USDJPY H4 Chart Analysis Technical Indicators Turn Bearish
The USD/JPY currency pair, often referred to by its popular nickname “The Gopher” or the “Ninja,” represents the exchange rate between the U.S. Dollar and the Japanese Yen. As a cornerstone of the global foreign exchange market, it serves as a primary barometer for risk sentiment and the yield differential between Western and Asian economies. Fundamentally, the pair is currently navigating a complex landscape; while the US Dollar faces low liquidity and potential irregular volatility today due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day bank holiday, the Japanese Yen is reacting to critical domestic data. The Revised Industrial Production and Tertiary Industry Activity Index released by METI serve as vital health checks for Japan’s manufacturing and service sectors; with the Revised Industrial Production showing a final figure of 1.6% for November, the JPY may find subtle support if these figures reinforce a resilient economic cycle, despite the broader focus on the Bank of Japan’s potential for future policy normalization in 2026.

Technically, the USD/JPY H4 chart shows a significant shift as the previous bullish trend transitions into a bearish trajectory. A clear negative regular divergence at the recent highs—where price climbed while momentum stalled—strongly supports this trend reversal. Having struggled at the 0.236 Fibonacci level, the candles are now breaking below the 0.382 (157.491) mark, suggesting a further decline toward the 0.5 (156.929) or 0.618 levels. This bearish momentum is reinforced by the EMA (9) trending above the price action and the MACD signal lines moving into negative territory. While the Stochastic (14,1,3) is currently oversold at 1.17, the absence of a bullish crossover indicates that sellers remain in firm control for the time being.
